History:

South West Durham Training Ltd. was founded in 1967 on Aycliffe Industrial Park as a Group Training Association to provide training facilities for local manufacturing and engineering companies predominantly around the Newton Aycliffe and Darlington area. The company now has trainees across the region from Cramlington in the north, Harrogate in the south, Barnard Castle in the west and Hartlepool in the east. Housed in their own purpose built, fully equipped and modern training centre on the outskirts of Darlington, the company employs a full time staff of 50. It also retains a list of associate trainers and consultants who can be called upon to meet the ever-increasing demands in specialist high level provision.

It is the mission of S W Durham Training Limited to provide a high quality training service and promote a life time learning culture to meet the ongoing needs of individuals and the business community to maximise potential to secure jobs and create wealth for the region.

Investors in People

Investors in People is the national Standard which sets out a level of good practice for training and development of people to achieve business goals. The Standard was developed during 1990 by the National Training Task Force in partnership with leading national businesses, personnel, professional and employee organisations such as the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), Trades Union Congress (TUC) and the Institute of Personnel and Development (IPD). The Standard provides a national framework for improving business performance and competitiveness, through a planned approach to setting and communicating business objectives and developing people to meet these objectives.


SGS Quality Mark
ISO 9001:2000 Quality Mark

Quality in the training and assessment of adults (post 16 years) in Engineering and Business Services disciplines and the delivery of short training courses for general industrial and commercial courses.  The centre's ISO status was renewed successfully in December of 2007.



Matrix Standard
Matrix Standard

The matrix Standard is the national quality standard for any organisation that delivers information, advice and/or guidance on learning and work.  The centre was recognised as fully matrix acredited in June of 2008.

RS Components Ltd.

From a lock-up garage in North-West London, J H Waring and P M Sebestyen established a company called Radiospares Limited, which began operating from a small building in nearby Birchington Road, supplying radio repair shops with spare parts for radios. It was from there that RS began its journey to becoming the market leader it is today.

Bishop Auckland College
Bishop Auckland College

Over recent years Bishop Auckland College has grown from a very small general further education (GFE) college serving Bishop Auckland and its surrounding area. The College is now an average sized GFE college serving South West Durham, a significant geographical part of County Durham, with a population of 180,000 spread across 3 local districts.

University of Bradford
Bradford University

Engineering and Technology at the University of Bradford has a long and distinguished history. The Mechanics Institute in Bradford was established in 1832 for the "education of artisans and mechanics". In 1882, the Bradford Technical College evolved from the Mechanics' Institute, with a single Engineering Department. When the University of Bradford gained its Charter in 1966, Engineering and Technology were forefront in the mission of the University in "making knowledge work". We have been working successfully with the University of Bradford since 2003 to deliver the Foundation Degree in Engineering
