Apprenticeships

Apprentices make a contribution to your business from day one. Apprentices learn while they work, so their knowledge is up-to-date. Because their training is on the job, the practical skills they gain are the ones that are right for your business.

Apprenticeships offer your business training for all your existing staff and new recruits in a wide range of areas, from business administration and customer service, to specialist skills like engineering.

How it works:
Apprenticeships focus on the whole job, not just individual skills. Apprentices learn through a combination of on and off-the-job education and training. In the workplace they work alongside your staff and the rest they learn from S. W Durham Training. In most cases this is on a day release basis. Apprenticeships help you stay competitive by developing the kind of people your business needs for the future.

SWDT can help you and your apprentice decide which Apprenticeship is best for your business.

There are two levels of Apprenticeship; apprentices and advanced apprentices:

Apprenticeships for apprentices usually last at least a year and apprentices work towards a National Vocational Qualification at Level 2, Key Skills and in most cases a technical certificate.

Advanced Apprenticeships usually last at least two years and apprentices work towards a National
Vocational Qualification at Level 3, Key Skills and a technical certificate.

Apprenticeships available:

Mechanical & Electrical Engineering
Toolmaking
Fabrication & Welding
Business Administration
